San Pedro Waterfront Arts District
We will be visiting the freshly installed Poetry Corners at Sixth and Seventh at Mesa. Eight poems will be temporarily printed on the sidewalks; two are by famous authors, six by local literati, and will be read aloud by 2 actors from Little Fish Theatre and one voice actor from Scary Stories. ArtWalk Tour Doyen, Pat Carroll will lead us on to the reveal of this amazing community mural.
This innovative, collaborative Poetry Corners project is sponsored by the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council Outreach Committee and the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District.
Sirens Java & Tea has a new mural on our west side of our building. Come see the reveal during the Art Walk. Thank you to all the Art District and the artists that worked on this project.
“The free Artwalk Tour usually gives about a one hour sample of the diverse art scene in San Pedro – a different itinerary each month, visiting artists in their studios and galleries. The tour leaves at 6:30 from the Chamber of Commerce Board Room Gallery. Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) presents a new Boardroom Gallery exhibition, At Full Volume, featuring our fourth artist in the series, AGCC Studio Artist Joyce Weiss. Weiss has been painting at Angels Gate Cultural Center’s campus since its inception, and we are excited to showcase her work to the greater San Pedro Community. Her work is imaginative and expertly created, with bright colors used “at full volume.”
This month’s tour will present different kinds of art – poetry and public art. This innovative Poetry Corners project is sponsored by the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council Outreach Committee and the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District.
Then we’ll attend the reveal of an amazing 80’X16’ community mural now gracing the west wall of the new Sirens building. The San Pedro Art District, Community Art Machine, and Sirens Java and Tea collaborated in the community mural project “Adventures in Art” – a six week workshop designed to give the participants a common foundation in the elements of art; color theory, principals of design, analysis of art elements and the creation of art works reflecting complex ideas and expressive content. The final creation is the product of the 12 core workshop students and 25 volunteers.
After the tour, you have plenty of time to enjoy a meal or glass of wine with entertainment at one of the many of the popular independent restaurants in San Pedro, and explore other art venues on your own.”
