“Alfa Romeo Tango” Aboard Battleship IOWA Museum
October 4 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The new art gallery Alfa Romeo Tango, which lives within Battleship IOWA, is pleased to present its grand opening exhibition, featuring new and old sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist Ben Jackel http://benjackel.com/gallery/index.html for the San Pedro Arts Community but open to the general public. This premiere exhibition is the first time contemporary art has ever been shown onboard a historic warship in Los Angeles. The centerpiece of this show is a newly completed stoneware sculpture of the doomed World War II heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis. The ship that delivered the atomic bomb Little Boy to the Pacific island of Tinian and then was sunk by a Japanese submarine is most famous for the suffering and loss of her crew, hundreds of whom were eaten alive by sharks. The sinking of the Indianapolis led to the greatest loss of life from a vessel at sea in US Navy history.
You’ll neet to enter at the rear gangway of Battleship IOWA near Security Booth. The crew will direct you.
Wear: Flat, soft-soled shoes as you will need to climb two short stairways to the gallery.

Where better to work on a craft than at Crafted at the Port of LA?
Crafters’ Night Out is a group of crafting enthusiasts who meet the first Thursday of every month from 4-8 p.m. to get creative, make stuff and have FUN!
We welcome crafters of all kinds and all skill levels who like to work on their projects and be in good company. Bring whatever you are working or be adventurous and learn something new! A simple craft project will be offered each month for those who want to meetup but do not have a project to work on.
Please RSVP if you want to make the craft project of the month so we are sure to have enough supplies to go around. Otherwise, bring your totes, buckets or bins filled with everything you need to create!
